Nissan-Safty Shields

Nissan is enhancing safty technologies based upon the new concept, "Comprehensive protection to help avoid dangerous situations and restore safe driving conditions".

Safety Shield classifies driving risks and accidents into six area from "risk has not yet appeared" to "post-crash." to implement technologies that function as effective barriers against potential danger fators that occur under various conditions and thereby prevent more dangerous situation from developing.

Nissan aims to halve the number of fatal and serious injuries from accidents involving Nissan vehicles in Japan by 2015 compared with 1995. Based on analysis of real-world accidents, Nissan has been working progressively to design and engineer safer vehicles.(from Nissan website)

Nissan's these technologies to help protect vehicle occupants in side and rear collisions with all-round sensors. The latest additions include side collision prevention (SCP) and back-up collision prevention (BCP). These work in tandem with existing distance control assist and lane departure prevention systems to offer what Nissan calling its "safety shield" concept.

With SCP, when the driver decides to change lanes, the side-mounted sensors activate a warning if an approaching vehicle is detected in the driver's intended lane. A yaw mechanism is then activated through brake control of individual wheels to help prevent a potential collision. (referred from professional engineering)
